Community Service in the Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise revolves around club members recognizing needs within the community, allocating funding to support the project and then volunteering their time to bring the project to completion.
ONGOING PROJECTS
Smoke Detector Program - The Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise, in partnership with the Novato Fire Protection District, visits over 800 local residences to distribute smoke detectors and smoke detector batteries. The project provided smoke detectors to the four mobile home park communities within Novato. The need to support this project was based on past fire tragedies that have occurred in these communities.
Fishing in the City is a program where several of our Rotary members provide lessons in the classroom on how to rig a fishing pole, tie on hooks and casting techniques, without injuring your friend standing next to you. After the students receive the instruction, a community event is provided at Scottsdale Lake where students, parents, family and friends can try their luck at catching trophy catfish that have been stocked in the lake with funds provided by Rotary members.
Marin Food Bank - Each year preceding Thanksgiving or Christmas, members of the Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise meet at the Marin Food Bank to load food boxes for needy families. A friendly competition usually breaks out to see which table can pack the most boxes of food. As the competition increases and the mood gets more festive, occasionally, when it is over, we often think that although a grateful family opens their box of food
on Thanksgiving or Christmas; if they only new the fun that went into providing that box.
Community Service is the glue that keeps a Rotary Club together. Completing a community service project provides a satisfaction that is getting harder and harder to achieve in this hectic, busy world.
